Where are performances held?

Our organization is the resident theatre company of the historic Capitol Theatre Center, located at 159 S. Main Street in downtown Chambersburg, PA.  The majority of our productions are performed in the Capitol’s main theater, however from time to time, we perform special events or productions in the Capitol Theatre’s Wood Center.

Where should I park when I attend your performances?

Street parking is available on S. Main Street at no charge during our performance times, but space is limited.  The Capitol Theatre’s parking lot is located in the rear of the building, and can be accessed off of W. Washington Street.  This lot features handicap parking, as well as a handicap-accessible entrance.  Space in this lot is also limited.  Overflow parking is located approximately 300 yards down W. Washington Street in the rear of the BIG LOTS parking lot.  There is no charge to park in either of these locations.

PLEASE NOTE…the Kerrstown Square lot located directly across from the Capitol Theatre’s main marquee entrance is a private lot.  Any unauthorized cars parked in this lot are subject to towing, at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Do you have a group rate?

Yes. Groups of 20 or more can receive a discount for the same performance when ordering through the CCT Office. Groups discounts are NOT available online. Call the CCT Office for more details via (717) 263-3900.

How does a subscription work?

CCT offers you flexibility that saves you money. When you purchase a CCT Subscripton or CCT Flex Pass, you receive flexibility in attending shows for the entire season, a partial season or with the Flex Pass you can use all of your tickets on a single show. What is the difference between the Capitol Theatre and Chambersburg Community Theatre?

CCT is the resident theatre company at the Capitol Theatre. This relationship affords us certain benefits; however, we are a paying tenant and a separate 501(c)3, non-profit organization. We rehearse, perform and have our office at the Capitol Theatre, as well as contract with the Capitol Theatre Box Office to sell our tickets, but we have our own By-laws, Board of Directors and management staff and continue to operate solely by ticket sales and donations.

How can I be in a play?

We hold open auditions for all of our shows. Auditions are open to anyone who is interested and no previous theatre experience is necessary.

How do I find out about auditions?

Auditions are usually held 6-8 weeks before opening night. We post the dates on our auditions page, in our membership newsletter, through social media and various online calendars.

What do I need to do or prepare to audition?

Different shows require different preparation for auditions and audition requirements are listed with audition notices.  Please be prepared to include a photo headshot at each audition, as well as completing an audition and release form.

I’ve never acted before. Can I still audition?

Yes. We always hold open auditions – anyone can audition regardless of previous experience.  View our auditions page.

When are rehearsals? Do I have to be at every rehearsal?

Each director has a different rehearsal schedule, but in general rehearsals are held on weekday evenings or weekends and run 6-8 weeks prior to opening night.  Performers should also be prepared to be required to aid in set construction. The week beginning the Sunday before opening night is “tech week” with tech & dress rehearsals held every night. Attendance requirements are determined by the individual directors.

Do actors get paid?

No. CCT is a non-professional, volunteer organization.

I’m new to theatre. How can I learn more about different aspects of stage techniques?

I don’t want to be on stage in front of an audience. Can I still get involved?

Absolutely! Actors may be the most visible & obvious part of theatre, but for every person on stage there are many more people working behind the scenes. We need help with the productions: set designing/painting/building, costumes, props, lighting and sound, make-up, directors, stage managers, backstage crew, ushers & ticket takers, musicians. We need help on our committees: marketing, fundraising, education & outreach, budget & finance, show selection, membership development. We even need occasional help in the office: labeling postcards, stuffing envelopes, folding program inserts, filing. We have opportunities to fit every ability, talent and time constraint.

My child is interested in acting. What activities do you have for kids?

We strive to offer at least one show each season (often more) that includes roles for children. We offer Summer Theatre Arts Group Experience (STAGE) Camp every year at the Capitol Theatre Center. STAGE Campers range in age from 8 to 18 and during the one week camp learn the many and varied aspects of theatre production from auditions through rehearsals to the final performance. In addition, the majority of the theatre workshops are open to all ages.
